Sony to launch Xperia Z on March 6?
After the recent launch of the BlackBerry Z10 and the LG Optimus G in India, it looks like Sony is next in line to launch their phone. If you have been following Sony Mobile India’s official page on Facebook, then you would have noticed the cover image that was updated yesterday. The image with black background says ‘Everything is about to change’ with the date 06/03/13 underneath the text. There is also an image of a phone in the backdrop, which looks like the Xperia Z. Clearly, it hints towards a launch event and it is quite likely going to be the highly anticipated Sony Xperia Z.
The Xperia Z was announced at CES, early this year, and with it Sony has joined the posse of manufacturers offering 1080p resolution display devices with a pixel resolution of 443 ppi. While that’s definitely a highlight, what’s also a big plus is the impressive 13 megapixel camera, which also allows HDR video recording. Touted as one of the best performing cameras out there, its 13.1 megapixel Exmor RS sensor comes with an LED flash and has support for geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, image stabilization and Sony’s 3D sweep panorama.
In terms of design, the phone is strikingly thin at 7.9mm and to add to it, the phone is water-proof and dust-proof. It is IP57 certified, which means that the phone is water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes. Under the hood, it is powered by Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU. Its display is powered by Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2, which makes colours more vivid and enhances brilliance, bettering the visual experience. It also has a Battery Stamina Mode, which the company claims can improve the standby time of the phone by four times by shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.

With the impressive specifications, the Xperia Z has undoubtedly managed create quite a buzz. The hype on the Facebook page is a clear indication of the anticipation amongst the consumers. When launched, owing to the specs, the Xperia Z will be a competitor to HTC Butterfly. While the HTC Butterfly managed to impress us with its performance, what dampens it is the poor battery life. Let’s hope that the Xperia Z performs as good as it sounds on paper. In terms of pricing, the phone is rumoured to cost approximately Rs 45,000.
