Apple to reveal fourth-quarter 2012 earnings results on Oct. 25

Conference call may give updated glimpse at sales figures for the iPhone 5, which was released little more than a week before the quarter's end.

Apple will reveal its fiscal fourth-quarter results on October 25, the company announced today.

Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer are expected to participate in an earnings conference call beginning at 2 p.m. PT. Audio of the event will be streamed live on Apple's investor relations page.

The call is expected to offer an early glimpse at sales figures for the iPhone 5, which was released September 21 -- just nine days before the end of the quarter. The company announced first-weekend sales of 5 million units, but some analysts had expected sales to be twice that.

For its fiscal third quarter, Apple reported revenue of $35 billion and earnings of $8.8 billion, or $9.32 per share. That was up from the $28.57 billion in revenue and profits of $7.31 billion, or $7.79 per share, the company reported for the same quarter a year ago. However, Wall Street had expected Apple to pull in earnings of $10.35 a share on revenue of $37.2 billion.

Apple's previous guidance for the fourth quarter estimated revenue of $34 billion and earnings per diluted share of $7.65.
