Verizon's 4G LTE Network Gets Pre-iPhone 5 Boost
Like its rival AT&T, Verizon Wireless is also beefing up its 4G LTE network in advance of Friday's iPhone 5 launch.
The carrier today expanded or introduced its 4G LTE service in cities across 20 states, from Pennsylvania to Wyoming. At this point, Verizon LTE is available in 370 markets in the U.S.; the company is looking to hit 400 by year's end.
In Kansas, Verizon was joined by Gov. Sam Brownback this week as it launched 4G LTE in Hutchinson, Lawrence, Emporia, and Coffeyville, and expanded its presence in Dodge City, Hays, Salina, Topeka, and Louisburg.
"More Kansans are now powered by Verizon Wireless 4G LTE than by any other provider, including those living in the top 20 most populated cities and numerous rural areas," according to Verizon.
Verizon said it has invested $443 million in its Kansas network since 2000 and $38 million in the first half of 2012 alone.
Where else will Verizon Wireless customers see a 4G LTE boost?
ARIZONA: Verizon expanded 4G LTE to Marana, Vail, Sonoita, and Three Points.
CALIFORNIA: Verizon 4G LTE is now in Merced.
COLORADO: Verizon unveiled 4G LTE in Bremerton, Silverdale, Aspen/Snowmass, and Greeley, and expanded in Longmont.
GEORGIA: Verizon introduced 4G LTE in Bainbridge, Statesboro, Moultrie, Ellijay, Americus, and Tifton.
IDAHO: Verizon 4G LTE is now in American Falls.
ILLINOIS: Verizon introduced 4G LTE in Sterling and expanded service in Bloomington/Normal, Peoria, and Mattoon.
INDIANA: Verizon activated 4G LTE in Wayne, Fayette and Union counties, which covers Richmond, Connersville, Liberty and Cambridge City and major roadways including most of I-70, U.S. 40 and U.S. 27.
IOWA: 4G LTE was activated in Clinton, and expanded in the Quad Cities.
MICHIGAN: Verizon 4G LTE is now available in Jackson County.
MINNESOTA: Verizon expanded coverage in the greater Rochester area, and officially launched in Bemidji.
MISSOURI: Verizon 4G LTE coverage expanded in Kansas City and was introduced in Rolla.
MONTANA: Verizon introduced 4G LTE in Billings and Helena.
NEBRASKA: 4G LTE was expanded in Lincoln and Omaha.
NORTH CAROLINA: Verizon activated its network in Morehead City with coverage extending throughout Carteret County. It also extended coverage in Forsyth, Guilford and Rockingham counties, as well as Asheville.
OHIO: In the Dayton/Springfield area, Verizon expanded its 4G LTE network in Xenia, Urbana, Greenville and Sidney, as well as Marion County.
PENNSYLVANIA: Verizon expanded 4G LTE coverage in the greater Pittsburgh area.
SOUTH CAROLINA: Verizon expanded its network in Charleston to reach 80,000 more people.
UTAH: Verizon expanded its 4G LTE network in West Desert and Lewis areas, including Greater Salt Lake City/Ogden, Provo-Orem, Cedar City and Logan, as well as Park City and Summit Park.
WYOMING: Verizon brought 4G LTE to Cheyenne.
